Short-wavelength blue light (around 460 to 480 nm) is the part of the spectrum that most strongly suppresses melatonin, the hormone that tells your body it is time to sleep.

In a controlled trial, evening screen light delayed melatonin release and the body clock, and left people less alert the next morning. Tinted evening lenses cut that same light before it reaches the eye.

How the lenses filter blue light

Blue light sits at the short-wavelength, high-energy end of visible light, roughly 400 to 500 nm. The band around 460 to 480 nm is the one research links to suppressed melatonin and a later body clock, because the eye is most sensitive to those wavelengths after dark.

A tinted lens filters by absorption: the dye in the lens absorbs that short-wavelength light before it reaches your eye, so less of the activating part of the spectrum gets through. The warmer view you see is the result of removing the blue end, not a coating laid on top.

Standard (amber) absorbs the high-energy blue band (about 400 to 480 nm) in a lighter everyday tint. Deep (wine red) is a deeper tint that reaches further into the blue-green range, so it removes more of the activating light for the last hour before sleep.

Isn't my phone's night mode enough?
Night mode only tints the screen, and only partially. Evening light also comes from the TV, the laptop and the lamps at home. Nocturne filters the blue light across your whole field of view, no matter where it comes from.
Does it actually work?
The mechanism is simple physics: tinted lenses absorb the light in the blue band that suppresses melatonin. Research on evening light and sleep is clear on the link. And you try it risk-free, for 30 nights.
Do colors look strange?
With the Standard lens, the evening looks warmer, similar to the glow of a reading lamp. You adjust within a few minutes. The Deep tint is more noticeable but also removes more of the blue-green light.
Can I wear them over contacts or with a vision prescription?
